This scholarship will recognize two (2) students who exemplify the qualities of integrity, commitment to others, and community involvement. Each one-time scholarship will be in the amount of $500.00.

Eligibility:
• One time scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a senior student who attends a Kent Intermediate School District and is involved in community service and/or activities in support of diversity and inclusion.
• Students must be accepted to Grand Rapids Community College with a minimum of 2.0 grade point average.
• Application must be accompanied by a high school grade transcript that must include six semesters with cumulative GPA.
• Scholarship awarded to students of African American or Hispanic Heritage.
December 15th. is the deadline.
Michigan State University:
2018 Health Sciences Scholar Institute (HSSI) at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine
is now accepting applications for their four-week intensive Scholars experience (non-residential) – July 9 – August 3, 2018. The Institute will expose students to the world of medicine and the journey of becoming a physician. The following criteria must be met by participants; current 10th and 11th graders with a minimum 3.0 GPA (unofficial transcript required); participating students are a member of at least one of the following groups: African‐American, Hispanic (all races), American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander; have a STRONG interest in becoming a physician (a MD specifically) For more information please visit their website. The Grand Rapids Police Department
is offering two free career exploration opportunities:
Youth Police Academy (YPA) – a week long mock police academy created for high school students. Two sessions: June 11-15 or July 23-27. Held at GRPD or transportation provided to/from off-site location when applicable. Basic Qualifications: Current Sophomore-Senior in Kent County and minimum 2.0 GPA in good standing. Application deadline for 2018 YPA: March 31st.
Police Explorers Program – a bi-weekly commitment to learn about the field of law enforcement through hands on training and competition
Geared for the more serious applicant ready to prepare themselves for a career in law enforcement. Basic Qualifications: Be between 14 (completed 8th grade) and 20 years old and live within 60 minutes of the Grand Rapids city limits. There is no application deadline for this continuing program

Hutt Scholarship: The Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship essay contest supports high school seniors bound for higher education. If that’s you (or someone you know), this is the opportunity to showcase those creative thinking skills in pursuit of one of fifteen $2,000 scholarships! To enter, write a 750 – 1,500 word essay about the following topic: Imagine nearing the end of your life – describe what will have brought you the greatest happiness or success. Essays will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges, with greater emphasis placed on creativity, clarity and originality than grammatical proficiency.
Applicants must be a high school senior in Michigan or Florida entering a trade school, college or university in the next academic year.
